Swimming

FPCA had its first swim team in four years during the 2011-2012 season.  Our team consisted of four swimmers:  Julianna Hensley (8th grade, JV), Kathleen McGovern (8th grade/JV and Varsity), Diana Nikolovski (10th grade/Varsity), and Chandler Zabel (10th grade/Varsity).  The JV and Varisty squads placed for points in three out of our four swim meets.  JV Swimmer Julianna Hensley qualified for GISA State in the 50 Backstroke and placed 22nd.  Varsity Swimmer Kathleen McGovern qualified for GISA State in all eight Varsity events and in three JV events.  Kathleen swam Varsity at the State Meet and placed 7th in the 200 Individual Medley, 8th in the 100 Butterfly, and 4th in the 500 Freestyle, earning our Varsity squad an 11th place finish.  The FPCA Swim Team expects to have four returning Varsity swimmers and one new JV swimmer.  We would love for more athletes to come and join our team!

Team Expectations:

-Any academically eligible 6th through 12th grader is welcome to participate in swimming.

-All swimmers must try out before joining the team.  Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of good form freestyle (ie. proper breathing techinique, good arm position, NO TARZAN SWIMMING!) and 50 yards of good form backstroke.  Swimmers must be willing to at least try to swim the entire workout.

-Practices are held at the Liberty County YMCA on Mary Lou Drive from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday, from mid-October to the beginning of February.  Beginning swimmers will be asked to practice for one hour; more advanced swimmers will be asked to practice the entire two-hour session.

-The cost per month for swimming is normally $40.  This rate is NOT a quote for the 2012-2013 season!  We will keep you posted on the cost.

-All swim meets are on Saturdays, with one possible Friday evening meet.  Parents/Guardians are expected to provide transportation, lodging (optional), and food for their swimmers.

-We are looking forward to building on the success of our 2011-2012 season. Come and help us make our dreams a reality.
